Planning A Visit

The South Tynedale Railway operates steam and diesel hauled passenger trains along a two foot narrow gauge line which travels through the scenic South Tyne Valley between Alston in Cumbria and Lintley in Northumberland, a journey of some 31/2 miles in length.

We pride ourselves on being a friendly line that offers great value for money, and while we are sure that the highlight of your day will be a ride on one of our trains, there are many other things to see and do when you come to the South Tynedale Railway.

Follow the links to discover: the facilities available at out stations, the walks available in the immediate vicinity of the line, places to visit in and around Alston - England’s highest market town, or simply just to find out when the trains run and how much it will cost you to join us for a ride along the line.

Mission Statement for the South Tynedale Railway:-
