Editorial
Welcome to the Spring Edition of Tynedalesman magazine. I make no apologies for this slimmer edition but I can only publish what I receive! If you want a larger magazine then please get writing.
Plans are now well in hand to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the re-opening of the first section of the Alston to Haltwhistle railway in its present form. Full details will be circulated in due course.
Do you fancy a job at the railway that is mostly indoors and comes complete with a comfortable chair and a nice coal fire? We need to train some more signalmen and anyone who has qualified at some time as a guard (or is in training as a guard) is eligible. This is one duty where initial training can be given on a non-operating day although several days of actual operating will be required prior to examination. If you are interested please contact Mike Le Marie and he will tell you more.
During the Summer, we will have some more weekends dedicated to work on the Kirkhaugh to Lintley section of line and hopefully we will be able to lay several hundred yards of new track. Look out for notices or contact Sean Wilson or Norman Cook for more details.
Finally, the Rostering Officer tells me that he still has plenty of vacancies on the Roster, so do please volunteer to fill the gaps and let us not have to cancel any days in our 25th Anniversary Year.
