Planning A Visit
The South Tynedale Railway operates steam and diesel hauled passenger trains along a two foot narrow gauge line which travels through the scenic South Tyne Valley between Alston in Cumbria and Kirkhaugh in Northumberland, a journey of 2¼ miles in length. Hopefully the first phase of the extension to Slaggyford will open to the public for the 2012 operating season, extending services to a new halt at Lintley.
We pride ourselves on being a friendly line that offers great value for money, and while we are sure that the highlight of your day will be a ride on one of our trains, there are many other things to see and do when you come to the South Tynedale Railway.
Follow the links to discover: the facilities available at out stations, the walks
available in the immediate vicinity of the line, places to visit in and around Alston
