Bus and Coach Services to and from Alston. |
Possible bus service changes during 2008.
The changes mentioned to bus services to be made from June/July 2008 did not take place therefore the situation is as follows:-
Service 680 - Nenthead and Alston to Carlisle. The timetable remains unaltered on Mondays to Saturdays.
Service 681 - Through journeys between Haltwhistle and Alston appear to continue, although demand for this service is low and the timetable was unchanged as at August 2008.
Service 888 - Journeys between Newcastle and Alston, the 1615 hours (4.15 pm) Newcastle to Alston journey continues and has not been timed an hour later as planned. It appears that all Wright Bros. Coaches services on 888 between Alston and Newcastle will be withdrawn from the end of September, leaving only the Tuesdays only bus between Alston and Hexham, due to lack of funding by county councils. The journeys between Newcastle, Alston and Keswick will be withdrawn after Sunday 28th September 2008.
Service 889 - Alston to Garrigill. The Fridays only journeys on this service are no longer shown in the Alston Local Area Bus Services leaflet produced by Cumbria County Council from 14th July 2008. Therefore it is assumed that the Fridays only journeys have been withdrawn, leaving only the schooldays only journeys operating on this bus service.
The following bus and coach services

Durham to Alston: Wright Bros. Coach Service X85. Summer only. This bus service was operated under contract to Durham County Council, the service was withdrawn and did not operate during 2006 or 2007, as part of the cuts being made to bus services, to reduce the amount of bus subsidies paid by Durham County Council.
It is expected that this service will not be operating during the Summer months of 2008.
