During previous years during the Summer months, an additional bus service operated from Durham to Alston, as Service X85, which connected at Alston with the coach service between Alston, Penrith and Keswick, on Wright Bros Coaches Service 888. A range of through tickets with day and period returns were available.

The Durham to Alston service was operated by Wright Bros Coaches, with funding provided by Durham County Council.

Please note: Due to cuts being made to bus services by Durham County Council, that the X85 bus did not operate during 2006. This bus service did not operate in 2007, and it is not known yet if funding will be made available to operate this bus service during 2008, as confirmation is still awaited.

The main network of bus services in the Alston area are operated by the local coach company, Wright Bros. Coaches Ltd., for details of their services please see the main Wright Bros bus timetable page.
