Bus and Coach Services to and from Alston. |
Timetables for bus services serving the town of Alston are shown below, these have been included for
use as a guide for visitors who wish to use the public transport network in the Alston area. Many of the journeys are financially supported by
Cumbria and Northumberland County Councils. Intending passengers are advised to check times with the bus company concerned
before travelling as timetables can be revised or altered at short notice.
Please note - Possible bus service changes from June 2008. A meeting between Cumbria County Council and Eden District council members, and bus and coach company representatives will now take place during June 2008. It is expected that subsidies paid to bus and coach companies are to be reduced within the county of Cumbria, due to financial pressures on county and district council services, unless additional funding is provided to county or local councils by the Government. Also the rising high costs of petrol and diesel fuel may lead to reductions to bus and coach service journeys. Therefore all of the bus timetables shown below, are subject to change from June 2008, which may lead to some alterations, reductions or withdrawal of bus and coach services.

The main network of bus services in the Alston area are operated by the following bus or coach companies:-
- C T Coach Travel. This coach company now operates the schooldays bus service 459 between Carrshield and Allendale via Ninebanks, Whitfield and Staward.
- Stagecoach in Cumbria. This bus company provides two Monday to Saturday daytime return journeys and one Saturday evening return journey on service 680 between Alston, Halton Lea Gate, Brampton and Carlisle. - Tyne Valley Coaches. This coach company operates school bus service 464 between Alston, Haltwhistle and Haydon Bridge High School.
- Tynedale Group Travel. From 4th April 2005, this company took over the operation of the service 681 bus service between Alston, Slaggyford, Halton Lea Gate, Haltwhistle and Housesteads Roman Fort. This company also operates bus services 688 and 689 between Hexham and Allendale. The company can be contacted by telephone on 01434 322944, on Mondays to Fridays between 8.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.. - Wright Bros. Coaches Ltd. This company provides links with Alston and the following places:- Brampton, Carlisle, Hexham, Keswick, Newcastle upon Tyne, and Penrith. It also provides local bus services from Alston to Garrigill and Nenthead. Their fleet of coaches are also available for hire. Wright Bros. - Service X85 between Durham and Alston no longer operates, it was withdrawn after September 2005.
