Hotels and Inns situated within the town of Alston:-

  • Alston House.
    A family run hotel offering spacious accommodation, great home cooked food, real ales, log fires in modern contemporary surroundings. All of the rooms at Alston House are en suite and comfortably furnished with tea/coffee making facilities, televisions and hair dryers. Guests will enjoy a hearty Cumbrian breakfast prepared using local produce wherever possible (including the famous Alston sausage). The restaurant offers probably the finest food on Alston Moor. Prepared from fresh ingredients by the chef proprietor, the food is robust English fare. Popular with both locals and visitors alike who enjoy the friendly, informal pub atmosphere that Alston House provides, it is recommended that you book your table early. The House cafe is open daily between 10.00 am and 4.30 pm. The Restaurant serves dinner from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm.

  • The Cumberland Hotel.
    A small family run hotel offering home cooked food, real ales and cider. Newly refurbished en-suite bedrooms and a warm welcome. This hotel has five well appointed bedrooms comprising of three double rooms and two twins, three of these are classified as ‘family rooms’, with extra single beds. These five en-suite rooms were completely refurbished in 2006. Food and drink also available, including the finest in home cooking and the very best real ales and cider. CAMRA Good Beer Guide Recommended and Summer 2005 pub of the season. Cycle and pet friendly.

  • Lowbyer Manor Country House.
    Lowbyer Manor was built in the late eighteenth century and is a Grade II listed Georgian Manor House on heights above the South Tyne river. It is a perfect base for a walking, cycling or driving holiday, or a retreat to unwind on the fringe of the cobbled town of Alston. The guest house which was formerly a girls’ school, has 9 en-suite bedrooms, each with tea and coffee making facilities and colour televisions. Spacious grounds with scenic views. Storage for cycles, walkers welcome. Comfortable lounge warmed by log fire. Cosy snug bar with Inglenook fireplace. The Manor is open all year round unless otherwise noted on their website.

  • The Victoria Inn.
    Friendly, family run town inn, centrally located in the cobled streets of Alston. Bed & Breakfast at this inn offers very comfortable accommodation at a fantastic prices, the rooms have colour televisions and children are more than welcome. Licenced bar (on request), C2C (Coast to Coast) walkers, tourists and contractors welcome.

  • Alston Youth Hostel.
    Walkers and cyclists will love this modern hostel overlooking the South Tyne Valley, on the Pennine Way and Coast-to-Coast cycle route. There are 30 beds available, including 2 rooms with 2 beds, 2 rooms with 4 beds, and 3 rooms with 6 beds.

  • Ghyll Burn Cottage.
    This cosy, character cottage dating from the 1600’s nestles in a secluded valley within a specialist Alpine Plant Nursery, just over a mile from Alston. Set within a specialist nursery and wooded valley. It is an ideal base for walking, cycling, and touring, for bird watchers or watching wildlife, plant enthusiasts or just relaxing. Children and dogs welcome.

  • Greenends Holiday Cottages.
    Situated above the Nent Valley, high on Alston Moor, midway between the market town of Alston and Nenthead, which is the highest village in Britain. Greenends Holiday Cottages are converted and furnished to a high standard, they offer peace and tranquillity within easy reach of the Lake District, Durham, Hexham and Hadrian’s Wall. The cottages consist of luxurious 4 and 5 star self catering accommodation, with the choice of a 5 star converted stables building, the Keepers 4 star house and the new Bothy, 5 star. They are set amidst the glorious and unspoilt North Pennines in an area of outstanding natural beauty known as “England’s Last Wilderness”.

  • Middle Fell. Self catering house.
    Middle Fell is a large stone built house, situated at over 1,500 ft above sea level on a peaceful hillside, one mile from Alston.

  • Harbut Law.
    Harbut Law is a large Victorian country house with warm, spacious rooms and views of the picturesque countryside from its position off the A689 Alston to Brampton road. Guests have the choice of Bed and Breakfast accommodation which is available from Easter to the end of October or self-catering accommodation which is open all year. Two en suite Bed and Breakfast guest rooms are in the main house, while behind the property the owners have created four superb self-catering cottages from old barns and other outbuildings; one cottage sleeps two persons, two cottages sleep four persons and the fourth sleeps 5 persons. Children are welcome in both options. Golf can be arranged locally and the central location makes Harbut Law a convenient base for touring either the North Pennines area, the Lake District, Northumberland, County Durham and the Scottish Borders.

  • Lovelady Shield County House Hotel & Restaurant.
    This elegant Georgian Country House Hotel stands on the former site of a 13th century convent on the banks of the River Nent, which nestles in the foothills of Alston Moor. The hotel is situated 2� miles from Alston in Cumbria. It is approached by a long tree-lined drive, the hotel offers complete seclusion, with unspoilt views of the surrounding countryside. The hotel is centrally heated throughout, has an intimate cocktail bar in the former dining room, and a library and drawing room where log fires burn brightly.   • The Miners Arms at Nenthead.
    The Miners Arms dates back to the mid-18th century and is a popular stop along the C2C (Coast to Coast) cycle ride route and other North Pennine routes. It is a traditional village pub offering the very best in local and guest real ales, with quality food served at lunch and dinner. Among the home-made dishes to enjoy is the famous Alston Pie. Two en-suite rooms are available.

  • Nent Mines Bunkhouses at Nenthead Mines Heritage Centre, Nenthead.
    Two self-contained bunkhouses set on an 18th century lead mining site, now a heritage and visitor centre, in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Mill Cottage Bunkhouse sleeps 6 people. The Assay House Bunkhouse sleeps 12 people. Both are fully heated with hot water and showers. On the C2C (Coast to Coast) cycle route.

  • Nenthall Luxury Country House Hotel.
    ‘The perfect country escape’, nestling deep wiothin the Nent Valley, Nent Hall Hotel is located one and a half miles from Alston, England’s highest market town.
